A diferença entre um turista normal e um turista explorador, não está no meio de transporte usado nem no conforto de onde se dorme, mas na forma como a informação é adquirida. Segundo os guias de viagem (o mais famoso deles é o Lonely Planet, que milhões de viajantes pelo mundo usam) e páginas da internet, a estrada que liga a China e o Paquistão (Karakoram Highway) já estava fechada desde a metade de outubro, algumas fontes diziam começo de novembro. Baseado nisto seria impossível d'eu cruzar a passagem de Khunjerab, a fronteira pavimentada mais alta do mundo, que fica por volta de 4700 metros acima do nível do mar, pois a chegada do inverno cobre tudo de neve por aquelas bandas. Me informei com locais e fiquei sabendo que o bom tempo postergou o fechamento da passagem, mesmo sem conseguir ônibus, estava decidido a tentar cruzar a fronteira. Em constantes idas a estação rodoviária internacional, em busca de informação, descobri que um míni-ônibus sairia na segunda de manhã rumo a Gilgit, no norte do Paquistão. Deu só uma hora entre a descoberta do ônibus, negociação e embarque. Custou 350 kuai, são 2 dias de viajem com uma parada para dormir em Tashkurgan e previsão de chegada em Gilgit, no Paquistão, no dia seguinte a noite.
Sorriso estampado na cara do Zé :) Matei a primeira dificuldade inicial da Odisséia, conseguir transporte pra passagem de Khunjerab no começo do inverno, cruzar o Himalaia por terra firme no início da temporada de neve.

Following the travel guides (the most famous one is the Lonely Planet, that millions of people use around the world) and internet pages, the road that connect China and Pakistan was closed in mid October due winter season. Based in this facts, it would be impossible to pass the Khunjerab Pass (highest paved border in the world) late November. Talking with locals, I have discovered that the Pass was still open, I guess they want the tourists be away of this route when there is snow. Going everyday to the international bus station of Kashgar, to collect information about a possible bus, I have found on Monday a minibus that would go to Pakistan. It was only ONE hour between the announcement of the bus, my discovery of that, negotiating and boarding. It cost me 350kuai, its 2 days trip, depart in the morning and arriving next day's evening in Gilgit, Pakistan, with a stop in Tashkurgan to sleep.
A big smile in my face :) The first hard part of the Odyssey was successful passed, find a transportation to Pakistan through the Khunjerab Pass, and cross overland the Himalaya in the beginning of the snow season.

lucky u to get this chance of transportation! only dead fish swim with the (tourist) stream :). like your dedication to find a way doing things that seem impossible. as a mater of fact we know nothing is impossible.
